In 1989, Kenny Higginbotham
had a vision that he could create a place where people would be
transported in time to a place where life was simpler. Kenny bought
a diner in Phoenix and spent the next two years developing his
concept. In the process he created the legendary 5 &
Diner Restaurant—the no-holds-barred 50’s
flashback theme with affordable, top-quality food including award-winning
burgers and shakes. Kenny’s concept continues to evolve
and expand. The 5 & Diner has become a landmark
in Phoenix and a tradition for many, including movie stars, sports
celebrities and our faithful guests.
Today there are company-owned and franchised 5 & Diner restaurants streching from coast to coast, and we are building new diners all the time. Our first two diners were modular buildings, however we now build all our Diners on site.
The conceptual development of the 5 & Diner brand is the result of food trend research and careful evaluation, creative planning and years of experience from a man who is passionate about perfection. Our stores have evolved since 1989 in response to customer preferences, but three core objectives have remained unchanged: quality food, value pricing and an atmosphere that takes our customers back in time to a simpler time.

Training & Support
All new
5 & Diner franchisees receive the
support and training required to open their restaurants
quickly and efficiently, including:- Site selection assistance and guidance, including field visits
- Detailed restaurant designs and layouts
- Professional layout, blueprint, design and construction document review and analysis
- Complete equipment lists and specifications
- Pre-approved suppliers
- In depth training for you and your management staff at a designated 5 & Diner
- Grand opening promotions assistance and on-site opening assistance
- Confidential operations manual documenting the 5 & Diner operational procedures
- All recipes and plate presentation manuals
- Comprehensive pre-opening assistance and restaurant opening training package
Once your 5 & Diner restaurant is open, you'll have the continuing guidance, consultation and support of our Franchise Regional Staff. Help or advice is only a phone call away. Ongoing support services include:
- Ongoing marketing-manual guidance
- Ongoing operational, marketing and financial-control consultation as needed
- National purchasing programs
- Scheduled visits from your Regional Manager and monthly mystery shopper visits
- Available in-service training and/or retraining of your restaurant staff
