Products & Services
It is our desire at Petland to make a difference in the communities we serve. For more than 38 years, Petland has been the retail pet industry leader in the area of animal care with ongoing staff training programs, in-store animal husbandry systems and community service programs aimed at placing homeless pets and curbing pet overpopulation in the community.
Petland is aware of the many animal welfare issues in the news today. We know that members of some animal rights groups would have you believe that all pet store puppies are bred and raised in substandard facilities. This is untrue. Petland also disagrees with the agenda of animal rights groups that would deny people the right to own and live with companion pets.
Like you, members of the Petland family love pets, and we share your animal welfare concerns. The health and well-being of our pets comes first for each of us at Petland.
Petland stores are independently operated by qualified franchisees. Each is responsible for choosing healthy pets offered to Petland customers. Petland, Inc. provides each Petland store with humane care guidelines to assist in this important task.
At the corporate level, Petland, Inc. is involved with other pet industry leaders to see that Petland puppies and kittens are raised in sanitary breeding facilities and are cared for by licensed pet professionals who pay careful attention to their welfare and veterinary needs. The pet professionals we are associated with also share our commitment to the highest standards of pet care. Petland staff members visit facilities to make certain standards are maintained. In addition, these facilities are licensed and inspected by the federal government.

Training & Support
Petland provides you with a 6 week-long training program. You’ll spend 2 weeks in the classroom, and 1 week in a training store, plus 3 weeks in your new store with a Petland trainer.
You’ll learn the business of operating a Petland store: financial management, supervision of personnel, animal care techniques, inventory management, merchandising, community relations, and marketing programs. Petland will also provide you with comprehensive operations manuals and videos for reference, and to assist you in the ongoing training of your personnel. And throughout the year, Petland offers quarterly training programs for you and your key managers.
These programs focus on animal care, sales management, fish department development, community service, marketing and cost control. What’s more, quarterly Merchandising and Marketing Planners will keep you current on pet product developments, distribution specials and promotional campaigns.
Supporting Your Store’s Operations.
The Petland corporate staff has one focus: your success. From the president to the receptionist, everyone’s job is rooted in the support of the strategic partners. Petland corporate officers review the financial statements of all Petland stores. Annually, a complete written review is generated, giving you specific suggestions and strategies for improvement.
Petland Business Improvement Consultants
These are assigned to our strategic partners. These experienced corporate field managers visit your store to conduct on-site training sessions, merchandising evaluations, and comprehensive store reviews to help you improve customer service, animal care programs, store presentation, and marketing programs.
Marketing Your Petland Store.

Why Petland?
The merchandise and pets offered at a majority of the small independent stores reflect the interests of the pet store owner rather than the needs of customers. Many limit offerings to one type of pet. And this limits the possibility of sales to customers who own a variety of pets.
Unfortunately for pet owners, the majority of these independent pet retailers lack expertise in animal care, merchandising techniques, financial planning and marketing of their business. The pet retail business is technically complex, and attempting the business without specific training and proven operational systems leads to the very expensive process of trial and error.
Serving the needs of our customers with only the best in quality pets and pet supplies is what Petland is all about. And for more than 35 years, Petland Pet Counselors have been striving to meet the challenge of our mission. Petland stores are located in more than 30 states and 5 foreign countries.
Petland stores offer tropical and marine fish, domestically bred pet birds, small animals, reptiles, puppies, kittens and the best foods and accessories on the market to care for them. Because the Petland Operating System has more than 35 years of experience in specialty pet retail operations and in handling millions of transactions with all types of customers, Petland knows what pet owners need.

Are You a Good Fit for Petland?
When you are granted a Petland franchise license, you get more than a sign on the door. Petland is more than just a name. From the initial financing package you present to your bank, to the quarterly specials and private-label products Petland provides, Petland works with its strategic partners to make their work easier, their customers happier, and their potential profits higher. And to help ensure your store’s success, Petland offers such special services as site location and lease negotiation, design and construction, financial services, training, advertising and direct mail, private labeling, an extensive distribution network and field operations support and communications.
You don’t have to be a pet expert to purchase a Petland franchise. You might not know a cockatoo from a macaw; and maybe the only amphibian you’ve handled was the frog in your backyard, but that’s okay. Petland prides itself on the best training programs in the industry for you and your staff. If you love animals, have a desire to succeed, are capable of learning the Petland system, and are committed to building a team of Pet Counselors and Animal Care Technicians to help you carry out your business plan, you will be a successful franchise owner.
